Reinhard Gupfinger and Katharina Anna Loidl initiated an artistic dialog dedicated to the research of sign systems and soundscapes in urban spaces. Through visual and auditory compositions, they explored contemporary living environments by using urban, architectural, and historical artifacts. The exhibition opened up a wide range of perspectives on the interplay of signs and forms, as well as language and sounds.

The installation Puls makes audible and tangible what disappears behind the surface stimuli and the constant flood of signs in everyday urban life – the sound of a space, in connection with and in relation to the people moving in it. Puls explores unconventional perceptual potentials of sound that are emitted and made accessible to the audience through this interactive installation.

Dosenstechen is the 3D representation of sounds that accompany the creation process of graffiti. In the so-called Dosenstechen, a sharp object is used to puncture a spray can, causing the paint to escape uncontrollably and spread in strong jets or splatters.

The concrete sculpture Havana Syndrome is based on audio recordings captured during attacks on members of U.S. embassies. These incidents are suspected to be operations by an opposing intelligence agency using a novel weapon. The first cases were documented in 2016 in Havana, Cuba, and later in other countries such as China, Russia, and the United States. In July 2021, another incident occurred at the U.S. embassy in Vienna. Affected individuals reported symptoms such as headaches, dizziness, insomnia, as well as intense, painful vibrations or pressure sensations in the head and ears, accompanied by loud noises.

Free Sound Library offers physical representations of sounds in the form of samples available for free takeaway. Take-away art!
